Harlem Academy

Print Design

Every year, the Harlem Academy holds a charity auction fundraising for the school so they can continue to fulfill their social mission: bringing an excellent education to those who might not have received one otherwise due to their socioeconomic conditions.

In 2013, I was in charge of designing the auction booklet. The idea for the front cover was to create an association of meanings by staging a young student raising her hand in a classroom as if to ask a question, in the same manner as what her older counterparts would do in the auction room, this time not to ask anything but in order to bid. I also decided to juxtapose sobriety with a child aesthetic. The glossy paper, the serif typeface, the ribbon binding, all calling for elegance, would contrast with the sans-serif multicolor typeface and krafty paper used inside the booklet.
