Web Design & Full-Stack Engineering

Winner of the Real Maestrenza de Sevilla, Gaillard is the most celebrated contemporary painter of bullfighting. His technique, influenced by the Spanish maestros Zuburan and Velàsquez, tends towards hyperrealism.

To respect the graphic power of his imagery, I decided to design the least intrusive navigation possible and let the images speak for themselves. Because of the many different ratios of his paintings, I often had to either play with the natural negative space of his canvases or frame them into some sort of ghost images of what they already were. The navigation was built with tablets and smartphones in mind. This website is a portfolio before anything else and needs to be able to be shown on the go without a diminished experience.

With Smalltalk and the framework Seaside, I created a CMS experience for the artist so he could upload his work, change his biography or his contact details (uploaded jpegs are being compressed to three different sizes for optimal loading). I wanted the experience to be as slick from the CMS side. If you want to check it out, shoot me an email and I will send you a link and login so you can play with the CMS.
